Shared Agreements

To foster an safe, inclusive, and valuable space for everybody Crown Yoga teachers, staff, and students are expected to read, understand, and align with the following shared agreements, or “responsibilities” while taking classes at the studio. Thank you.

Student Responsibilities

  • Crown Yoga’s students have a primary responsibility to prioritize their own safety by listening to their body, communicating any limitations to the teachers, modifying poses as needed, and informing the teacher of any medical conditions that could affect their practice.

Students are required to respect the studio energy, space, and others, as well as to:

    • Arrive on time. The studio opens 15 minutes prior to the start of class, and the door will lock at the start of class to minimize disruptions.

    • Practice self-awareness. Understand your physical capabilities and limitations, and adjust poses accordingly to avoid injury, asking the teacher for help if necessary. You can always sit or rest in child’s pose.

    • Communicate with teachers. Inform your yoga teacher about any injuries, medical conditions, or concerns you may have before starting a class.

    • Wear appropriate attire. Wear comfortable clothing that allows for movement. Shirts are required for men.

    • Sign the waiver. Sign the liability waiver acknowledging the risks associated with yoga practice.

    • Be mindful. Focus on your own practice without being overly concerned with others or how you think you look. Refrain from gossip, bullying, and other practices that harm others. Maintain silence during class, and be mindful of other students, their experiences that day, their space, and their practice.

    • Cancelling. Students who cannot attend a booked class are expected to cancel their class through the fitDEGREE app. Some classes have a waitlist and you may incur a fee for chronic late cancellations and no-shows. Read our full cancellation policy on our Studio Policies page.

    • Read the policies. Read, understand, and align yourself with all of the Crown Yoga studio policies and student responsibilities, including (and not limited to):

    • Be prepared. Read our How to: New Student Tool Kit to set yourself up for success in the studio. This guide includes:

Studio & Staff Responsibilities

When you’re a student at Crown, you can expect Crown Yoga, its teachers, staff, and ownership, to uphold the following responsibilities.

  • Crown Yoga’s primary responsibility to its students is to provide a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where students can learn and practice yoga. In addition, we guarantee qualified instruction, cater to diverse abilities'/levels/needs; and maintain high standards guided by the 8 limbs of yoga. It is a priority for our teachers and staff to respect individual needs and meet students where they are at when they show up to class, promoting a positive experience for every student. Most importantly, we believe our students are our family and friends, and we uphold our responsibilities with that in mind.

The following responsibilities are listed in alphabetical order, not in order of importance as they are all important.

    • Ability levels. Our classes are built for all levels unless otherwise stated—including beginners new to yoga, meditation, and sound. Students receive modifications and variations of poses to accommodate a classroom open to diverse abilities and experience levels.

    • Accessibility. Our building was constructed in the 1950s, prior to the ADA going into effect; therefore, we have limited physical accessibility within the building. Please contact Sarah with questions or concerns about ADA accessibility. We want everyone to have access to yoga and its benefits.

    • Allies. We are LGBTQIA+ and DEI allies, and we participate in the City of Renton’s Safe Place program. As such, Crown Yoga’s studio is a place of refuge for anyone fleeing from or experiencing hate and bias-related crimes.

    • Communication. We provide transparent communication, especially around important issues, as soon as possible. Full communication details are found in our Studio Policies.

    • Continuing education. We encourage our teachers to earn continuing education credits (CEs) so they stay updated on current yoga practices and techniques. They do this through ongoing trainings and workshops led by a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider (YACEP) or YA-certified training program.

    • Ethical practices. We adhere to professional and ethical standards laid out by the Yoga Alliance and its Code of Conduct.

    • Respect. We foster a positive and inclusive environment where all students feel comfortable and respected regardless of their body type, gender, race, experience level, etc.

    • Safe environment. We offer a clean and well-maintained studio space with proper equipment, and clear instructions on proper use of equipment while addressing any safety concerns promptly.

    • Student feedback. We create quarterly opportunities for students to provide feedback on their experience at the studio, offer suggestions, and opportunities to contribute to improving the studio's offerings. We also provide other opportunities for feedback as they arise— questions, concerns, and constructive feedback, etc.

    • Qualified Teachers and YA standards. We follow the Yoga Alliance’s Scope of Practice policy Teachers provide clear instructions on poses, proper alignment, meditation, and breathing techniques, while being open to questions and feedback from students.

If you feel a teacher, staff, or another member of the studio is not upholding their responsibilities, please reach out to us via the email addresses below for a constructive conversation. We commit to listening and working together to resolve complaints as quickly as possible.
